Information about donations and further development of Cross-Linker
In the past I created two plugins for WordPress and made them available for download at wordpress.org. No matter that plenty of people downloaded the Cross-Linker plugin, only a few of them donated. Thanks to those people! Later I asked for donations directly in the plugin's interface as WordPress was changing all the time and the plugin stopped working under new versions. With release of the version 2.8.something the plugin stopped working on more and more blogs. The problem wasn't caused by the plugin as it hasn't changed. The only thing that has changed is WordPress.
Contacting me... and ignoring donations
This was the first time when bloggers contacted me often asking for solution. Well... they didn't care about sending a few bucks, they didn't care about linking to one of my websites. But they did care about resolving the problem!
Conclusion
Of course, I gave up resolving problems because no money = no work. Things aren't free. I am not going to continue developing this or other plugin for WordPress as WordPress is too slow, further releases may be incompatible with current plugins, and I also don't like the idea of making one software available to millions of bloggers. Because bloggers don't need to know HTML and CSS, PHP and MySQL... and still they'll have websites. Websites without knowledge of how they were built. Of course, I hate WordPress because of the following reasons too:
- Some time ago a release of new WordPress version caused blank screen to appear after posting a comment. I believe that some anti-spam plugin interfered with new functions of WordPress.
- It's a perfect software for spammers; Since one doesn't have to know HTML, and since it's very automated, spammers may post thousands of comments in a couple of minutes, spammers may create thousands of blogs with no other purpose than spamming. Also, WordPress is good for selling links, which I dislike.
- It's too slow; If you're using more plugins at once, they will slow down your website.
